Govt Ensures Cooperation for Khaleda Zia’s Treatment, Says Chief Adviser Yunus

Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today announced that the government is extending all necessary cooperation to ensure the treatment of ailing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. ‘You are aware that the national leader, three-time former Prime Minister, one of the foremost figures of democratic politics of the country and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is currently hospitalized due to illness. This is a matter of concern for all of us,’ Yunus stated during a national address on Victory Day 2025.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser emphasized that the interim government has been prioritizing Khaleda Zia’s health concerns from the onset of her illness. He described her as ‘an inseparable part of an important chapter in Bangladesh’s history,’ underscoring her dedication to the nation’s independence, sovereignty, and democracy. He also noted her significant contributions to national development and the respect she commands among the populace.



Professor Yunus further revealed that the government has declared Khaleda Zia a Very Very Important Person (VVIP) of the state. In doing so, the government aims to ensure she receives all the necessary support for her treatment, while also respecting her family’s wishes. He highlighted that, besides the ongoing treatment within the country, potential arrangements for advanced treatment abroad are being considered if necessary.
