Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today declared that future governance in Bangladesh would operate under a new political order, moving away from the existing political system. Addressing a youth marathon organized by Jamaat’s Youth Division at Suhrawardy Udyan this morning on the occasion of Great Victory Day, he emphasized that forthcoming political efforts would strongly oppose terrorism, extortion, murder, rape, false cases, corruption, injustice, and oppression.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Rahman stated that the marathon would persist until a youth-led new Bangladesh is established. He assured, “No matter how many obstacles or threats come, we will not stop. We will build the dream Bangladesh of the nation, Insha’Allah.”

Discussing the upcoming national election, the Jamaat Ameer asserted that people would reject any form of technical conspiracy. He clarified, “We do not seek any favour from the Election Commission, but if it shows favour to anyone, it will not be accepted.” He further cautioned against the influence of black money in elections, noting that people are now more aware than before. “No one can buy a nation awakened with patriotism using black money,” he added.

Dr Rahman reflected on the history of mass resistance triggered by injustice and discrimination by the Pakistani ruling elite in former East Pakistan. However, he criticized that post-independence promises for a discrimination-free society were broken, with democratic rights curtailed, newspapers shut down, and people deprived of their voting rights.

He alleged that during various regimes, enforced disappearances, killings, and repression led to public discontent and resistance. “That is why people across the country rose up against oppression during the July movement, forcing the rulers to flee,” he remarked.

The Jamaat chief claimed that fugitive forces are now attempting to destabilize the country through covert attacks, particularly targeting youths and revolutionaries. “They believe eliminating a few leaders will stop the movement, but the number of revolutionaries will only increase,” he said, urging youths to resist all anti-people forces.

Encouraging the youth, the Jamaat Ameer called for continued efforts until a new Bangladesh is fully realized. Jamaat central executive council member and Dhaka South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul also addressed the event, which was chaired by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer and conducted by Dhaka South Assistant Secretary Mohammad Kamal Hossain.

Central leaders, including Advocate Dr Helal Uddin and Dr Fakhruddin Manik, also spoke at the occasion. After the meeting, Dr Shafiqur Rahman officially inaugurated the youth marathon from Suhrawardy Udyan, with around 50,000 young participants joining the event, which proceeded from Suhrawardy Udyan to Manik Mia Avenue via Shahbagh and Science Laboratory.
