Chittagong: Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma has expressed the government's intention to foster unity by enhancing harmony, peace, and amity among all communities in the country. He articulated this vision while speaking at the traditional Nabanna Festival -2024, celebrated by the Garo community during the harvest season in November and December. The event took place at Banani Model School and College grounds in the capital yesterday, as reported in a ministry press release today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Chakma emphasized the importance of preserving and cherishing the nation's manner, behavior, dress, culture, heritage, and traditions. He underscored the significance of these cultural aspects in promoting unity and understanding among diverse communities. The Nabanna Festival, which coincides with the Wangala festival, is a cultural celebration marked by the Garo ethnic group. This event, held during the late autumn harvest period, includes offerings and wo rship to seek divine blessings for a bountiful harvest. The festival's worship rituals aim to ward off diseases, ensuring a more productive harvest in the coming year, and fostering prosperity and peace within the community. During the festival, Garo artists showcased their cultural heritage through performances such as the 'Zum Nritya' and other traditional events, dressed in their customary costumes. The Wangala Celebration Committee organized various stalls at the Banani College grounds, offering traditional food, handicrafts, clothing, and souvenirs, which highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of the Garo community.
