Dhaka: The government has sent to forced retirement two Public Works Department (PWD) engineers and demoted another on charges of professional misconduct, officials said here today. The Public Works and Housing ministry issued three notifications enforcing punitive actions against the three sub-assistant engineers connected to the Rooppur Green City project.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the two junior engineers who have been dismissed from their positions are Md Fazle Haque and Shahnaz Akter, while Khorsheda Yasriba has been demoted, with her pay grade reduced to the immediate lower scale. The notifications were signed by Works and Housing ministry secretary M Nazrul Islam, who provided an explanation of the allegations, the investigation process, and the legal procedures that led to the disciplinary measures.
The notifications revealed that the investigations determined the accused engineers were negligent in their duties concerning the oversight of the purchasing process. The allegations of irregularities were first brought to light in 2019, with several newspapers labeling the scandal as 'balishkanda' or the 'pillow scandal.'
