The government under the dynamic and prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pledged to ensure occupational safety and legitimate rights of the people.

To this end, the government has been observing the National Occupational Health and Safety Day on April 28 every year since 2016 taking occupational health and safety as an important issue for all industries.

Administrative officials and others concerned made the observation while addressing a training workshop for an integrated team at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) here today.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) jointly organized the training.

The inspection team has been constituted to stop accidents and to ensure a safe working atmosphere in factories, industries and other commercial establishments to keep pace with economic progress.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Division GSM Jafarullah addressed the meeting as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamim Ahmed was in the chair.

BIDA Director Dr Nabi Maruf Ashraf, DIFE Joint Director General Matiur Rahman and RCCI President Masudur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.

The meeting was told that the "National Occupational Health and Safety related Research and Training Institute" has been established on 19 bighas of land at Terakhadia area in Rajshahi city recently.

The institute will contribute a lot towards ensuring occupational health and safety of all the factories and industry workers side by side with boosting of industrial productivity, Divisional Commissioner Jafarullah hoped.

He said the workers play a vital role in country's economic development. โ€œBut, they remained neglected in their occupational health. They met accidents several times while on duty, causing a loss to the national economy,โ€ he said.
