Minister Mustafa Jabbar told the parliament today that the government collected revenue of over Taka 6,007 crore from the country's private mobile phone operators in previous fiscal 201718 and current fiscal 201819.
Private mobile phone operators are properly paying the revenue amount they collected from users and the money is being deposited at the government exchequer, he said while responding to a starred question placed by treasury bench lawmaker Benjir Ahmed of Dhaka20 in the House here with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Jabbar said the government collected revenue of Tk 4,554.66 crore from the operators in fiscal 201718, while 1,452.79 crore in current fiscal (up to March, 2019).
He said the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) regularly audits the
activities of mobile phone operators in ensuring revenue collection and measures are being taken as per the audit reports.
