Lalmonirhat: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today announced the government’s zero-tolerance policy against child marriage. Speaking at a discussion at the Lalmonirhat Circuit House, Dulu emphasized that strict legal measures will be enacted against anyone involved in facilitating or conducting marriages involving minors.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was organized with registered Muslim Nikah registrars and Hindu marriage registrars from the district. Dulu underscored the necessity of accurate age verification before marriage registration and warned that anyone found aiding in these illegal activities for financial purposes would face severe repercussions.
The minister also highlighted the importance of implementing digital systems to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and modernization of the marriage registration process. He stated that adhering to proper registration protocols is crucial for maintaining social order and safeguarding women’s rights.
The meeting was chaired by District Commissioner of Lalmonirhat Mohammad Rashedul Haque, with Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mononita Das and other officials from the district Kazis’ association also in attendance. Attendees engaged in discussions focused on improving the effectiveness and transparency of the marriage registration system.
