Dhaka:Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman has called for increased responsibility from influential content creators, including Salman Muqtadir, following recent events involving misinformation and allegations of extortion.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Zahed Ur Rahman expressed sympathy for Salman Muqtadir, who was involved in an incident where his studio was attacked. Initially, Muqtadir alleged extortion demands by BNP members, but he later retracted this claim. The government has emphasized the need for responsibility among high-reach individuals to prevent misinformation spread.

At a press briefing, Zahed discussed a Facebook post by the Jamaat-e-Islami leader, who blamed the government for the alleged extortion after viewing Muqtadir's video. The post remains on the Jamaat leader's account, which Zahed noted, highlighting the spread of misinformation.

Zahed clarified that the government does not condone violence and is committed to ensuring justice swiftly. He also mentioned that other establishments were damaged, not just Muqtadir's studio, and criticized aggressive statements made by opposition leaders.

The adviser addressed the global challenge of misinformation, pointing out its significance in the theme of International Right to Information Day. He suggested that public awareness and legal frameworks, such as the upcoming Cyber Security Act, could be effective in tackling misinformation issues.
