Dhaka: State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury announced today that the government is implementing short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to rejuvenate the nation's film industry. "The Prime Minister has directed the formulation of a comprehensive plan for the development of the film industry," Yasser stated at a programme at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), marking 'Film Directors Day 2026'.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman attended the event as the chief guest, alongside Prime Minister's Adviser on Information and Broadcasting Zahed Ur Rahman. Yasser emphasized the government's focus on the overall development of the film industry, extending beyond the BFDC. He highlighted the importance of building on the legacy of past cinema talents to enhance the industry's quality and capacity.
Yasser further explained that the government is working on a plan to implement initiatives across various institutions and offices related to the film industry. "BFDC is also an important part of this plan," he remarked, underscoring the role of experienced professionals in leading the industry's development with government support.
In his address to the film industry, Yasser pledged continued support and expressed his personal interest in engaging with industry professionals. The state minister emphasized his commitment to working closely with stakeholders to support the industry's growth.
The 'Film Directors Day' event commenced with the symbolic release of pigeons. Bangladesh Film Directors' Association President Shaheen Sumon welcomed attendees, and several prominent figures, including media personality Faridur Reza Sagar, singer Sabina Yasmin, and film director AJ Mintu, were honored for their contributions to the cultural sector.
Renowned personalities such as Masud Parvez, Kazi Hayat, Delwar Jahan Jhantu, Dr. Matin Rahman, and Mashiuddin Shaker were also recognized. At the guests' request, Sabina Yasmin performed songs, adding to the celebration. The event was attended by BFDC Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani, Bangladesh Film Directors' Association Secretary General Shahin Kabir Tutul, and other eminent individuals from the film industry.
