Accra:Prime Minister's Adviser for Education and Primary and Mass Education, Mahdi Amin, announced that the government will provide comprehensive support to send the best young talents, chosen through national competitions, to an international conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin made this announcement while inaugurating the 'Bangladesh Youth Model United Nations 2026' at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad. The event, organized by the youth organization Future Bangladesh, is a two-day conference where students from schools, colleges, and universities across the country are scheduled to engage in mock debates on national and global policy issues.

Mahdi Amin, who also serves as the spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized that special initiatives are being introduced to provide students with opportunities to engage on international platforms. A national competition will be held, involving young participants from every educational institution, with winners receiving government funding to attend the UN conference. The government aims to formally implement this initiative next year under the Prime Minister's directive, ensuring necessary cooperation to make it a success.

The adviser highlighted the Prime Minister's triangular approach to talent development through education, culture, and sports. Government sponsorship will continue for various talent-development activities and competitions, including mathematics and physics Olympiads, Natut Kuri, Quran recitation and hifz competitions, debates, and quizzes.

Reflecting on his own experience, Mahdi Amin recalled participating in a Model United Nations in 2007 during his studies at Baruch College of the City University of New York, where he visited the UN Headquarters. He noted the significant role young people have played in pivotal moments of Bangladesh's history, advocating for their potential to be realized through merit and integrity, irrespective of political identity.

Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office Professor Dr. SM Abdul-Awal, and Dr. David Dowland from BRAC University also addressed the attendees at the ceremony.
