Tianjin:Bangladesh is advancing a comprehensive technical and vocational education and training (TVET) ecosystem tailored to meet industry needs, aiming to link education directly with employment amid rising demand for skills in artificial intelligence, digitalization, and green technology, announced Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Milon emphasized the country's efforts to create a national system where curricula align with industry needs, educators continuously update their skills, and students gain practical, industry-related experience. This initiative is supported by the National Qualifications Framework, which fosters employment opportunities.
Dr. Milon delivered these remarks during Bangladesh's national statement at the opening session of the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference 2026 in Tianjin, China. The event, themed 'TVET Embracing Change Together, Setting Standards Together, Building the Future Together,' gathered education ministers from over 40 countries, government delegations from more than 100 countries, UNESCO representatives, and industry experts.
The minister highlighted that human resources are Bangladesh's greatest asset and that TVET is a crucial link between education, practical skills, and employment. He referenced Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to China in June, during which both nations reaffirmed their commitment to educational cooperation and human resource development.
Dr. Milon also expressed Bangladesh's interest in leveraging China's technological expertise to modernize technical education and strengthen industry-institution partnerships. He urged countries to adapt education systems to emerging technologies, tailor global TVET standards to national needs, and enhance partnerships among governments, educational institutions, industries, and international organizations.
Additionally, Dr. Milon met with Chinese Vice Minister of Education Ren Youqun to discuss upgrading technical institutions, developing joint programs, expanding Chinese scholarships for Bangladeshi students, and establishing a Bangladesh-China Joint Technical and Technology University in Bangladesh. Both parties agreed to swiftly implement follow-up measures to advance the proposed cooperation.
