Dhaka: The government has given the green light for the procurement of approximately 1.5 million passport booklets and an equal number of lamination foils. This decision was made during the 14th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, which took place today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room within the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the procurement will be undertaken for the current fiscal year (FY25) from HID CID Limited, located in Maplewood, Crockford Lane, Chineham Business Park, Basingstoke, England. The transaction will be conducted under the international Open Tender Method (OTM) at a cost of approximately Taka 61.20 crore. During a post-meeting briefing, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed emphasized the urgent need for passports among expatriate Bangladeshis, who have been experiencing prolonged waits for passport renewals. Additionally, Bangladesh's embassies and miss ions abroad are prioritizing the issuance and renewal of passports to meet the growing demand.
