Patuakhali: State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Hoque announced today that the government is set to introduce an "e-Health Card" to advance its "health for all" vision. The announcement was made during his visit to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, marking his first visit as the chairman of the hospital's management committee.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare services. The introduction of the e-Health Card aims to modernize and integrate health services across the nation, ensuring improved coordination and access to patient health information. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen healthcare by upgrading treatment facilities and increasing manpower at various levels, including divisional, district, upazila, and medical college levels.
Nurul Hoque also highlighted the challenges faced by Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, noting that it is currently operating under severe pressure due to limited infrastructure and insufficient manpower. Despite being a 250-bed facility, the hospital is accommodating approximately 800 to 900 patients daily. This excessive patient load has led to overcrowding, with many patients, including children and the elderly, forced to stay in corridors and on floors.
To address these issues, the state minister announced plans to establish a fully equipped 500-bed hospital for Patuakhali Medical College. This initiative aims to significantly improve healthcare services in the region and alleviate the current strain on the hospital's resources.
Patuakhali Civil Surgeon Khaledur Rahman Mia, Superintendent of Police Md Abu Yusuf, Hospital Superintendent Dilruba Yasmin Rupa, and senior officials from various government departments were present during the visit.
