Chittagong university: Chittagong University (CU) achieved significant success at the Inter-University Athletics Championship 2026, securing a total of 22 medals, including four golds, 10 silvers, and eight bronzes. The event took place from May 4 to 6 at the Islamic University campus in Kushtia.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CU competed against 51 universities and emerged as joint first runners-up in the men's category and joint second runners-up in the women's category. In the men's division, CU tied with Jashore University of Science and Technology, amassing 43 points, thanks to outstanding performances from athletes like Zakir Hossain, Hirak Roy, and others.
Zakir Hossain clinched a gold medal in the 10,000-meter race and added silver medals in the 5,000-meter and 1,500-meter events. Hirak Roy contributed significantly with a gold in the 400-meter hurdles, silver in the high jump, and bronze in the 400-meter sprint. Other notable achievements included Fahad's silver in javelin throw and Ruman Joy's silver in triple jump.
In team events, the CU men's team secured silver in the 4x400-meter relay and bronze in the 4x100-meter relay. In the women's category, CU tied with Jashore University of Science and Technology for joint second runners-up, earning 24 points. Key athletes like Tamanna Mahbub Prity and Israt Jahan Ipti played crucial roles in the team's success.
Tamanna Mahbub Priti captured the gold in the 100-meter hurdles and secured additional silver medals in discus throw and shot put, alongside a bronze in the 100-meter sprint. Israt Jahan Ipti earned a gold in the high jump, while Mim contributed with a bronze in the 400-meter race. The women's team also claimed bronze medals in both the 4x400-meter and 4x100-meter relays.
Mohammad Shawon, CUCSU Sports and Athletics Secretary, expressed pride in the athletes' achievements and highlighted the importance of regular training to enhance future performances. Rajshahi University and Dhaka University claimed the championships in the men's and women's categories respectively. CU's men's team finished second overall, while the women's team came in third, demonstrating the university's strong athletic capabilities. Additionally, Tamanna Mahbub Priti secured second place individually with 12 points.
