Dhaka: The government is taking steps to update and amend the Post Office Act of 1898, aiming to align the century-old legislation with contemporary requirements, as stated by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, the Chief Adviser’s special assistant to the ICT ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Faiz Ahmad confirmed the development through a post on his verified Facebook page. He emphasized the need for this amendment to digitally transform postal services, implement a modern addressing system, manage address changes due to climate-related migration, ensure the security of personal data, and enhance institutional capacity.
Faiz Ahmad elaborated that the revised law will be titled the ‘Postal Services Ordinance, 2025,’ which will replace the existing Post Office Act of 1898. He expressed confidence in the potential of the proposed amendments to bring significant changes to postal services.
