Dhaka: Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to share expertise, provide technical assistance, and expand cooperation with the Maldives, focusing on areas such as capacity building, local governance, skilled workforce, and human resource development. This pledge was reiterated by Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives, Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, during a courtesy call on Maldivian Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting held in Mal© emphasized enhancing collaboration in decentralization, local governance, and public sector development, highlighting mutual learning and institutional partnerships between the two nations. Minister Umar praised Bangladesh as a dependable development partner and expressed a strong interest in strengthening institutional cooperation.
The Maldivian minister expressed enthusiasm for learning from Bangladesh's success in community-based development and its microfinance and microcredit models, which have significantly contributed to inclusive growth and rural empowerment. Umar also appreciated the role of Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the Maldives, acknowledging their vital contributions to the country's socio-economic development across multiple sectors.
In response, the Bangladesh envoy conveyed gratitude for the Maldivian government's ongoing support to Bangladeshi nationals and reiterated Bangladesh's readiness to extend technical cooperation and share governance and human resource development experiences. Both parties agreed on the importance of signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between relevant ministries to institutionalize cooperation and promote sustainable, long-term engagement.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen the Bangladesh-Maldives partnership through enhanced collaboration in local empowerment, institutional capacity building, and sustainable development, aligning with the national priorities of both nations.
