Dhaka: Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the government has established the prices for salt-applied rawhides of cows, pegging them at Tk 60 to Tk 65 per square foot in the city and Tk 55 to Tk 60 per square foot outside the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the price of goat hides is set at Tk 22 to Tk 27 per square foot, while she-goat hides are fixed at Tk 20 to Tk 22 per square foot nationwide. These rates were announced by Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin during a press conference at the Ministry of Commerce.

Bashir also stated that restrictions on leather export will be eased for a period of three months. Additionally, he noted that leather would not be allowed to enter the city for 10 days following Eid al-Azha. To aid in the preservation of rawhide, free salt will be distributed across the country.

The government has taken steps to educate the public on preserving and processing rawhide by producing two informative films to be shown nationwide. Furthermore, 86,000 butchers have been trained, with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock providing support.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary (Export) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan were also present at the announcement.
