Government Prioritizes Sports in Education System

Cumilla:Prime Minister's Adviser on Education, Mahdi Amin, announced today that the government is prioritizing sports alongside education, aiming to make sports a fundamental part of the education system.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin made these comments during the opening ceremony of the 53rd Summer National Sports Competition at Bhasha Shoinik Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium. He emphasized the government's vision of integrating sports into the educational framework from the grassroots to the national level and mentioned that sports would become a subject from Class IV starting next year.

The current Summer National Sports Competition is organized on a large scale to support this initiative, with participation from nearly 30,000 schools, madrasas, and technical education institutions. Students from Classes VI to X are competing in four events at the preliminary stage.

Mahdi Amin highlighted the government's aim for sports to gain institutional recognition as both entertainment and a potential profession. He expressed hope that students would enhance Bangladesh's international reputation through their talents and creativity. He noted that implementing the Prime Minister's directive to make sports a key educational component is a significant step towards this goal.

Plans for expanding the Prime Minister's Gold Cup Football Tournament were also discussed, aiming to increase interest and talent development in sports across the country. The competition is organized by the Bangladesh National School, Madrasa and Technical Education Sports Association, managed by the Cumilla Education Board.

Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon attended the event as the chief guest, alongside Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, Cumilla-10 constituency lawmaker Md Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan, and other dignitaries. The Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Prof Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, chaired the event.
