Government Plans New Employment Department to Boost Job Market

Geneva: Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain announced today that the government is initiating the establishment of a new employment department aimed at enhancing job facilities in the country. This announcement was made during a meeting with the Director General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Gilbert F. Houngbo, in Geneva.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Hussain sought the technical support of the ILO to ensure a safe work environment and the implementation of labour laws in the country. He emphasized the government’s commitment to reform and development initiatives within the labour sector, highlighting the amendment to the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, and improvements in the trade union registration system.



Dr Hussain also informed Mr. Houngbo about the strengthening of labour inspection processes and detailed the government’s strategies for generating new employment opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, and ensuring safety in the industrial sector, particularly in shipbreaking. The Labour and Employment Secretary, AHM Shafiquzzaman, was also present during this discussion.
