London: The much-anticipated closed-door meeting between Chief Adviser Prof Dr. Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to take place today at the Dorchester Hotel in London, from 2 pm to 4 pm BST (9 am to 11 am local time). This two-hour meeting has stirred excitement among millions of people in Bangladesh and abroad, who are keenly awaiting the outcome of the discussions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, people from all walks of life, including political analysts and democracy advocates, hope this meeting will be a turning point in the country’s political landscape. While neither side has disclosed the official agenda, it is believed that issues such as elections, justice, and reforms will dominate the discussion.
Senior BNP leaders indicated that Tarique Rahman intends to propose holding the national elections in early February. In contrast, Dr. Yunus is expected to advocate for an election timeline in early April, emphasizing the importance of reforms and justice. BNP UK branch leaders revealed that informal discussions took place last Wednesday between Tarique Rahman’s delegation and the chief adviser’s representative to set the meeting’s agenda. Additionally, a representative from Tarique Rahman met with a government representative on Thursday, as confirmed by Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam in a video message.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed optimism about the meeting, stating, “We are very optimistic about this meeting. Not only us, but the entire country’s attention is now on London. Surely, a logical solution will come through the meeting between the two leaders. It will open the way for compromise. Through which, according to the expectations of the nation, a way will be found to move the country forward through a democratic process.”
