Dhaka: The government has decided to develop a counter-narrative to address audio-video propaganda on social media platforms, aiming to maintain the country’s law and order. This initiative was confirmed in a Home Ministry statement released today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision emerged from the ninth meeting of the Advisory Council, chaired by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.). The council resolved to counter false and baseless social media propaganda effectively to inform the public and maintain societal stability.
The meeting further resolved to alert law enforcement agencies to prevent any unrest caused by propaganda and rumors. The council emphasized the importance of maintaining communal harmony and preventing instability from any banned organizations or vested groups.
In preparation for Eid-ul-Azha, the council also decided to implement special measures to enhance safety and security for travelers and to alleviate traffic congestion. Additionally, the statement mentioned measures to curb Rohingya infiltration.
Instructions were also issued to uphold law and order in industrial zones. It was decided that garment workers should receive their salaries, bonuses, and other benefits on time. The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Industrial Police, and intelligence agencies have been tasked with closely monitoring the situation to prevent instability through rumors.
