Mymensingh:The government has introduced a Family Card initiative aimed at providing women with Taka 2,500 per month to promote self-reliance. This effort is part of fulfilling an election pledge following Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's assumption of office, as stated by State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury, MP.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yasser made these remarks while attending a ceremony where wheelchairs were distributed to persons with disabilities and sewing machines to extremely poor women in Nandail upazila.
The Family Card will be issued free of charge, and Yasser emphasized that no one should pay for it. He urged individuals to report any demands for payment to the administration. The distribution of sewing machines is part of the government's strategy to empower women economically.
Yasser encouraged women to use the sewing machines to generate income, which could support their households, build capital, and provide savings for emergencies. He highlighted the potential for women to eventually establish small industries and achieve financial independence.
The state minister expressed his optimism that such initiatives would lead to female self-reliance and enable them to assist others in the future. He called for cooperation to ensure these initiatives are implemented smoothly and sustained over time.
The event was chaired by Nandail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fatema Jannat, with other administrative officials and BNP leaders in attendance.
