Dhaka: The government has undertaken elaborate nationwide programmes to celebrate Bangla New Year 1433 under the initiative of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The programmes were finalised at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the ministry’s conference room in the capital today. Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury presided over the meeting.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, extensive arrangements have been made in coordination with different ministries, divisions, educational institutions, cultural organisations, and local administrations to transform the Bangla New Year celebration into a national festival. The programmes include the publication of special supplements featuring messages from the President, the Prime Minister, and other ministers; a colourful procession and cultural events organised by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University; and celebrations arranged by cultural organisations, including Chhayanaut.

Tight security measures will be ensured across the country. Government and private television channels and radio stations will broadcast special programmes marking the occasion. Baishakhi rallies, cultural functions, and traditional fairs will be held at district and upazila levels. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will organise events at both central and regional levels.

Educational institutions will celebrate the day in a festive atmosphere, and Shishu Academy will arrange special programmes involving children. Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and relevant organisations will organize Baishakhi fairs. Special meals and cultural programmes will be arranged in prisons, hospitals, and children’s homes (shishu paribar).

Furthermore, various creative activities such as discussions, painting, essay writing, and quiz competitions will be held at various institutions and organizations. Necessary allocations will be provided to implement the programmes at district and upazila levels. The meeting was informed that necessary instructions have already been issued to the ministries, divisions, and local administrations concerned to ensure proper implementation of the programmes.

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has called upon all citizens to participate in celebrating the Bangla New Year in a festive and inclusive manner.
