Lalmonirhat:Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu announced that the government is actively working to develop athletes who can compete nationally and bring honor to the country internationally. This statement was made during his visit to the Lalmonirhat District Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dulu highlighted the upcoming District Administrator Kishore Football Tournament, scheduled to be inaugurated on October 10, with State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque in attendance.

Dulu emphasized the need for more opportunities for young people to pursue sports professionally, citing Lalmonirhat's rich sporting tradition and ample facilities. He pointed out that financial constraints often hinder talented athletes from pursuing sports as a career, and the government aims to create conditions that allow athletes to excel at all levels.

The minister also mentioned that a segment of the young generation has turned to drugs over the years instead of sports. To counteract this trend, various initiatives are being implemented to encourage youth participation in sports.

Sports grounds across the country have been revitalized through initiatives such as 'Notun Kuri Sports' and the 'Prime Minister's Gold Cup'. There is a noticeable increase in young people's interest in sports, particularly in football, kabaddi, and cricket, which will be further promoted.

The government is also extending support to athletes and sports clubs to help keep young people engaged in sports and away from drugs. During the visit, Dulu was accompanied by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner M Rashedul Haque Pradhan, Zila Parishad Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, district unit Mohila Dal General Secretary Anjuman Ara Shapla, Lalmonirhat municipality BNP General Secretary Abdus Salam, and other district BNP leaders.
