Dhaka: The government has approved a significant proposal to procure, print, bind, and supply approximately 5.21 crore textbooks to be distributed free of charge to class-VIII students for the academic year 2025. This decision aims to ensure that students across various educational streams receive the necessary educational materials without financial burden. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approval was granted during the 14th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year. The meeting took place at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed. The proposal was presented by the Secondary and Higher Education Division, emphasizing the need for timely distribution of textbooks to students. The initiative involves 76 institutions that will supply the textbooks in 102 lots. The textbooks cater to students in both Bangla and English versions, including general, Dakhil, and technical students. The overall co st of this undertaking is estimated to be around Taka 269.69 crore. Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, addressing reporters after the meeting, highlighted the importance of this approval, stating that it is essential for students to receive their textbooks as promptly as possible.
