Chittagong: Members of the joint forces have detained at least 30 people in an overnight drive across the port city in connection with the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, police said. Advocate Alif was hacked to death allegedly by the supporters of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari during a fierce clash between the Jote supporters and police yesterday. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the clash ensued when the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court rejected Chinmoy's bail plea and sent him to jail on sedition charges. This legal decision sparked unrest among his supporters, leading to the tragic incident. Confirming the arrest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (public relations) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Kazi Tarek Aziz stated that after verification, the detainees will be shown arrested in the Alif murder case. The joint forces' swift action reflects the seriousness with which the authorities are addressing this violent episode .
