Dhaka: The government has approved a proposal to procure five LNG cargoes this year on a government-to-government basis to address the country’s increasing energy demand. The decision was made during a meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at the Secretariat.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan briefed reporters following the meeting. He outlined that Petrobangla, the state-owned oil company, would procure LNG directly from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd as part of the government-to-government agreement.

The agreed price for the LNG has been set at JKM plus US$ 0.145 per MMBTU. Officials indicated that the LNG imports would play a crucial role in ensuring a continuous supply of gas for power generation and industrial applications, thereby supporting the country’s energy infrastructure and economic activities.
