Dhaka: The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) has given the green light to several proposals concerning fertilizer imports for the current fiscal year, a move designed to guarantee a steady supply of essential agricultural inputs across Bangladesh.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, officials at the Cabinet Division confirmed that the approved imports include urea, TSP, MOP fertilizers, and phosphoric acid, to be sourced through state-level agreements from various international suppliers. Under the proposals from the Industries Ministry, Fertiglobe Distribution Limited of the UAE is set to provide 40,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer at a total cost of Taka 192.08 crore. Similarly, SABIC Agri-nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia will supply an additional 40,000 metric tons at the same price and unit rate of US$392.33 per ton.

Further approvals include a purchase of 30,000 metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Bangladesh’s Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Ltd (KAFCO) at Taka 139.53 crore, priced at US$380 per ton. From the Agriculture Ministry, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will import 35,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer from Russia’s JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) at Taka 152.61 crore, with a per-ton price of US$356.25.

Additionally, BADC is set to import 60,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer from Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops, divided into two lots of 30,000 metric tons each, with each lot costing Taka 201.22 crore and a per-ton price of US$548. The committee has also approved the import of 20,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid (P2O5: 52-54%) for DAP Fertilizer Company Ltd (DAPFCL) at a cost of Taka 199.20 crore through M/S Sun International FZE, UAE, from manufacturers in China and South Africa.

These decisions are intended to maintain sufficient fertilizer reserves for the upcoming cultivation season, ensuring smooth agricultural production. The meeting also sanctioned two significant road development proposals under the Noakhali Road Division to upgrade regional highways to four lanes, thereby enhancing connectivity in the Cumilla and Noakhali regions.

Additionally, the purchase committee approved two procurement proposals under the project titled ‘Modernisation and Capacity Enhancement of BREB’s Electric Distribution System (Dhaka-Mymensingh Division) (Special Revised).’
