Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today emphasized the interim government's commitment to transforming Bangladesh into a nation where its citizens are the fundamental source of power. Addressing a reception for gallantry award-winning freedom fighters and their families, arranged by the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka Cantonment's Multipurpose Complex on Armed Forces Day, he articulated a vision for equality and unity among the people. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus stated, "From now on, we want to build Bangladesh in such a way that the people are the true source of all power." He emphasized the importance of establishing a society where everyone is seen as equal, without any hierarchy in national life. He added that the government's responsibility is to unite people into a larger family, where differences of opinion do not create enmity and no one is considered an enemy based on religion. Recalling the armed forces' contributions to the Great War of Liberation, Prof Y unus highlighted the coordinated attack on the Pakistani occupation forces on this day in 1971, which led to Bangladesh's independence. He paid tribute to the martyrs and prayed for the salvation of their souls. The Chief Adviser also expressed respect for the gallantry award-winning and war-wounded freedom fighters and their families. Addressing recent events, Prof Yunus mentioned the student-led uprising, describing it as a revolution that achieved a new Bangladesh on August 5, 2024. He called for collective effort to tackle the climate crisis and bolster global peace and economy, maintaining amicable relations with all countries. He emphasized that mutual respect, trust, and cooperation would underpin the nation's foreign policy. Prof Yunus urged the nation to advance in tandem with the world, ensuring an environment where the youth can contribute to nation-building by harnessing their creativity and merit, despite resource limitations. He reiterated the government's commitment to realizing the freedom f ighters' dream of a welfare-based state devoid of discrimination and exploitation. He concluded by expressing the government's pledge to the freedom fighters, martyred and injured students, and all who participated in the revolution, to build a prosperous future capitalizing on the sacrifices made. He sought happiness, peace, and overall welfare for the country's citizens, particularly the valiant freedom fighters and their families.
