Gaibandha: Some 51,000 affected farmers of the district will receive seed and fertilizers free of cost from the government during the current Robi season under agri incentive and agri rehabilitation programmes. The district experienced repeated floods a few months back, damaging crops on 68,000 hectares of land and raising concerns about food security among growers. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, to mitigate the losses caused by floods, the Ministry of Agriculture has decided to provide seeds of various crops and chemical fertilizers-Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP)-to the farmers as part of these programmes. A total of 24,000 farmers from all seven upazilas in the district have been included in the agri incentive program, while 27,000 are covered under the agri rehabilitation program. Under these initiatives, high-quality seeds for crops such as wheat, maize, mustard, groundnut, onion, mung bean, pulse, khesari, arohor, sunflower, and soybean are being distributed to selec ted farmers to cultivate on one bigha of land during the current Robi season. Additionally, DAP and MoP fertilizers are being provided to aid farmers in successfully cultivating these varieties. Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), AKM Ruhul Amin, stated that the distribution of seeds and fertilizers is proceeding at full pace and will be completed soon. Furthermore, seeds of Boro Hybrid paddy will also be distributed to 35,000 farmers this month for cultivation during the Robi season, he added.
