Gopalganj: The local administration has announced an extension of the ongoing curfew in the Gopalganj district for an additional 10 hours, set to commence at 8:00 pm today and continue until 6:00 am tomorrow. This decision follows a 14-hour break and is aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of residents and their properties.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the curfew extension was confirmed in a public order issued by Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman. Prior to this, the district administration had relaxed the curfew for 14 hours, from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm today, as part of its ongoing efforts to assess the situation.
The curfew was initially imposed following an incident involving an attack on a roadside meeting organized by the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Gopalganj. The initial curfew was enforced from 8:00 pm on July 16 to 6:00 pm on July 17. Subsequently, the curfew period was extended multiple times, with brief intervals, to address the evolving situation and ensure public safety.
The authorities have stated that future decisions regarding the curfew will be made after a thorough assessment of the law and order situation, in consultation with law enforcement agencies.
