Geospatial Technology Seminar Highlights Role of GNSS CORS in Bangladesh’s Infrastructure Development

Dhaka: A seminar titled ‘Geospatial Technology Transformation: GNSS (CORS) as the Key to Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Bangladesh’ was held in the city today. The event, organized by the Survey of Bangladesh under the Defence Ministry, was chaired by Surveyor General Brigadier General Nur-E- Alam Mohammad Jobayer Sarwar, as announced in an ISPR press release.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Defence Secretary Md Ashraf Uddin delivered the keynote speech as the chief guest, while Ichiguchi Tomohide, the chief representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Bangladesh, participated as the special guest. The seminar underscored the importance of geospatial technology as a critical component for global development.



Speakers at the seminar emphasized the installation of CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) and the integrated use of shared information. They highlighted that GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and CORS technology could significantly enhance land management, agriculture, transportation, urban planning, and the development of climate-resilient infrastructure.



Professor Anwar Hossain from Dhaka University presented the key paper, while Saiduz Zaman, the project manager, delivered a presentation on ‘Sustainable Infrastructure Development through GNSS CORS’. The seminar was attended by officials from various ministries, divisions, departments, universities, local representatives, and GNSS experts, reflecting a broad interest in the potential applications of geospatial technology in sustainable development.
