Genocide Day Commemorated With Solemn Ceremonies at Rajshahi University

Rajshahi: Genocide Day was observed at Rajshahi University (RU) with due respect, highlighting the tragic events of March 25. At 7:00 pm, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Faridul Islam, accompanied by senior administrative officials, laid wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. They offered prayers seeking forgiveness for the souls of those who were martyred in the genocide.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Shaheed Memorial Museum and other institutions also paid their respects by placing wreaths at the memorial. In his address, VC Prof Faridul Islam recounted the events of March 25, when the Pakistani forces commenced ‘Operation Searchlight.’ This operation targeted unarmed and innocent Bengalis, aiming for indiscriminate destruction through burning and killing individuals of all ages, including youths, students, teachers, and police.



Prof Faridul Islam emphasized that the Bengali nation initially resisted in scattered ways before organizing to achieve victory. He urged the community to embrace the spirit of the Liberation War, emphasizing the importance of preparing future citizens who will remain vigilant for the nation’s welfare.



The event was attended by notable figures, including Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Main Uddin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Md. Farid Uddin Khan, Treasurer Professor Md. Matiar Rahman, hall provosts, department heads, Proctor Professor Md. Mahbubur Rahman, and Student Advisor Professor Md. Amirul Islam.
