Gazipur Industrial Areas Resume Normalcy as Factories Reopen

Gazipur:The industrial areas in Gazipur have returned to a state of calm as most garment factories have resumed production. This follows four days of labor unrest, during which workers staged protests demanding an increase in the minimum wage. The unrest subsided after the government announced the formation of a wage board, leading many workers to return to their jobs.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, traffic on the Dhaka-Tongi, Dhaka-Mymensingh, and Dhaka-Tangail highways has been normal since the morning. While most factories have resumed operations, some have declared holidays as a precaution.

At a press conference at the Gazipur Press Club, leaders of the 'Sramik Mukti Sangram Parishad, Gazipur' urged workers to return to work to restore normalcy. The organization's President, Tamiz Uddin Tanu, emphasized the importance of the garment industry to the economy and called for vigilance against any attempts to exploit workers' demands for instability.

Mohammad Shafiul Alam, from the Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation, expressed confidence in the wage board to address workers' demands through dialogue. He stressed the need for humane treatment of workers.

Strong security measures are in place across the industrial belt, with law enforcement agencies maintaining a presence to prevent further unrest. The Gazipur Deputy Commissioner noted that workers are beginning to see the government's efforts to address their demands, leading to a reduction in protests.

Local authorities and representatives continue to monitor the situation and encourage workers to return to work to maintain peace in the area.
