Dhaka: A mass Iftar program titled ‘Gano Iftar’ was held on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus today in a festive atmosphere. The event, organized by students under the banner of ‘Students of 50th Batch,’ took place at the central playground of the university.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Iftar Mahfil saw the participation of more than 1,500 fasting individuals, including teachers, students, and other university stakeholders. Among the notable attendees were Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sohel Ahmed, and Proctor Professor Dr. A K M Rashidul Alam.

Abdul Halim, a fourth-year student of the public administration department, expressed his sentiments about the event, stating that the holy month of Ramadan is a blessing and that events like mass Iftar promote spiritual and festive celebrations. He also expressed hope that such events would continue with the administration’s support.

Husne Mubarok, one of the organizers, highlighted that the initiative was a continuation of last year’s effort by the 49th batch, which organized a mass Iftar Mahfil as a protest against bans on such gatherings by several universities. Zia Uddin Ayan, another key organizer, emphasized the positive response received from peers and the university administration and mentioned that the administration had promised support for future events of this nature.

Professor Dr. Sohel Ahmed, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration), addressed the gathering, welcoming the initiative. He emphasized the importance of learning lessons of unity, harmony, and spiritualism from such events and encouraged implementing these values throughout the year.
