Dhaka: Mathematics Department of Dhaka University held a freshers’ reception and cultural programme for the first year undergraduate students at the department building today. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed attended the event as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was chaired by Departmental Chairperson Professor Shapla Shirin and featured notable guests such as Pirojpur University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, and Dhaka University Mathematics Alumni Association President Dr. Mohammad Tajul Islam. Associate Professor Sarkar Md. Sohel Rana delivered the welcome speech, while Mehezabeen Mahua and Riti Raha represented the freshers in their speeches.
Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed highlighted the importance of making mathematics accessible and comprehensible for students. He remarked on the foundational role that mathematics plays in educational life and emphasized its significant impact on personal development through enhancing analytical skills and decision-making abilities.
Professor Ahmed also noted that Dhaka University offers various co-curricular activities, encouraging students to engage in these opportunities to grow into skilled and responsible citizens. The event concluded with a cultural programme featuring performances by students from the department.
