Dhaka: Four more children have died with symptoms of measles in the last 24 hours, raising the number of deaths linked to confirmed measles and measles symptoms to 1,057 since March 15. The recent fatalities highlight the ongoing health crisis across the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that the total number of deaths from suspected measles cases has reached 956 since March 15, following the four recent deaths. Notably, there were no new deaths from confirmed measles in the past 24 hours, keeping the total number of confirmed measles deaths at 101 from March 15 to September 20.
The DGHS release also noted that 1,148 suspected measles cases were reported in the last 24 hours. Since March 15, the number of suspected cases has reached a total of 179,814. Additionally, there were 88 new confirmed measles cases in the past day, bringing the total confirmed cases to 20,562 since the outbreak began in mid-March.
The health crisis has seen a total of 158,589 patients with suspected measles admitted to hospitals from March 15 to September 20. During this time, 152,225 patients were discharged from hospitals, indicating the significant strain on healthcare facilities and the ongoing battle to control the spread of measles across the nation.
