Narail: A bumper production of Aus paddy is expected in the district this season as harvesting is progressing in full swing across the three upazilas.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) reported that Aus paddy has been cultivated on 9,107 hectares of land in the district this year, with a target to produce 23,597 metric tonnes of paddy. So far, harvesting has been completed on 81 percent of the total cultivated land, and farmers are now busy harvesting and threshing the paddy.
Deputy Director of DAE Md Arifur Rahman stated that farmers in the district are becoming increasingly interested in Aus cultivation every year as the government provides them with free agricultural incentives. He mentioned that there is a possibility of bumper Aus production if the weather remains favourable until the harvested paddy is brought home.
DAE sources highlighted that Aus paddy has been cultivated on 3,859 hectares in Narail Sadar upazila, 1,718 hectares in Lohagara, and 3,530 hectares in Kalia upazila. Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of DAE Nipu Majumder informed BSS that farmers cultivated different varieties of Aus paddy during the current Kharif season (2026-27), including high-yielding BRRI Dhan-48, 55, 82, and 98, hybrid varieties Hira and Agro-12, BRRI-7, and local varieties such as Ratail, Bhojan, Parangir, and Narai.
Majumder noted that cooked rice made from Aus paddy is tasty and the soil of Narail is highly suitable for Aus cultivation. As the rice has good demand, farmers are interested in cultivating Aus paddy every year, he added.
