Pukuria: A mobile court today apprehended four individuals and confiscated two dredgers involved in unauthorized sand extraction from the Sangu River in Pukuria Union, Banshkhali Upazila. The operation was spearheaded by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Omar Sani Akand in the West Pukuria area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, local resident Nur Karim reported that a group had been incessantly extracting sand from the West and North Pukuria areas of Wards 6 and 9. Their activities posed a risk to nearby homes, farmland, and the Water Development Board's embankment. Additionally, the dredgers generated significant noise disturbances in the locality.
The four individuals detained have been charged under the Sand Mahal and Soil Management Act, 2010. The authorities have taken strict measures to curb such illegal activities to protect the environment and local communities.
The confiscated dredgers were entrusted to Farid Ahmed, UP member of Ward 6, with UP members Habibur Rahman and Biduanul Karim witnessing the handover.
