Dhaka: A court here today placed former Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of garment worker Fazlul Karim during the July-August mass uprising. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Imran Ahammed passed the order as police produced the former law minister before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case lodged with the capital's Uttara East Police Station. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anisul Huq was arrested from the Sadarghat area as he, along with Salman F Rahman, was trying to flee the capital through the waterways on August 13. Fazlul Karim was shot on August 5 while participating in an anti-discrimination movement in the Uttara area. He was immediately taken to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The case regarding Fazlul Karim's murder was filed by his brother, implicating 40 individuals. Anisul Huq's arrest and subsequent remand are part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
