Rajarbagh: The opening ceremony to mark the formal launching of the training programme on enhancing the skills and capacity of the police to perform election duties professionally is set to take place at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital tomorrow morning. Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury is likely to formally inaugurate the training programme.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, more than 1.5 lakh policemen will undergo training through this programme to ensure security during the planned national elections in February next year. The Police Headquarters HR department has developed nine training modules over the past three months, incorporating suggestions from election experts and lawyers. This initiative is led by the dynamic leadership of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Additional IGP for HR.

The course is expected to be effective in preparing police personnel to handle any law and order situation successfully during the polls. Bangladesh Police has established 130 smaller and four larger training centres across the country where officers will be trained according to the course outline for election duties.

To supplement the training, the Police Headquarters have developed two documentaries, a 15-minute audiovisual content, and a nine-minute film, alongside a booklet. Already, 150 master trainers have been trained under the modules at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka from August 31 to September 2. Plans are underway to develop 1,292 master trainers or trainers of trainers (ToT) at 19 police training centres nationwide in the coming days.

These trainers will subsequently be responsible for training more than 1.5 lakh police personnel who will be on duty during the elections.
