Foreign secretary signs condolence book at Turkish Embassy Dhaka for quake victims

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen Thursday signed the condolence book at the Turkish Embassy in Dhaka, expressing support to the people and government of Türkiye after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated wide areas of the country Monday, killing thousands of people.

Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan and the newly appointed Bangladesh Ambassador to Türkiye Amanul Haq were present.

Ambassador Turan thanked the foreign secretary for signing the condolence book for the victims of the February 6 earthquake in Türkiye.

Rescuers pulled more survivors from beneath collapsed buildings Thursday, but hopes were starting to fade of finding many more people alive over three days after a catastrophic earthquake and series of aftershocks hit Turkey and Syria, killing more than 19,300, reported AP.

The quake that razed thousands of buildings was one of the deadliest worldwide in more than a decade. The deaths have surpassed the toll from a 2011 earthquake in Japan's Fukushima that triggered a tsunami, killing more than 18,400.
