Chattogram: Some 70 foreign businessmen and representatives from countries including Korea, China, Japan, Australia, and India visited the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Anwara and the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Mirersarai, as the Bangladesh Investment Summit-2025 commenced today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) organized this visit on the first day of the four-day Summit, aiming to showcase the favorable investment climate in these industrial zones dominated by foreign entrepreneurs. The Summit, which continues until Thursday, will be formally inaugurated by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital.
The foreign investors toured various factories of the Youngone Corporation at KEPZ from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, followed by a presentation on KEPZ's operations. Youngone Corporation, a key player in Bangladesh's textile and apparel sector, oversees KEPZ, which is renowned for its global best practices in industrial development and sustainability. The zone features 48 green-certified factories and advanced logistics and warehouse facilities.
Strategically located along the left bank of the Karnaphuli River, KEPZ is a 15-minute drive from Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport via the Karnaphuli Tunnel. Spanning 2,492 acres, it is the largest privately owned and eco-friendly export processing zone in Bangladesh. Youngone Corporation's reforestation efforts have transformed the area into a thriving green industrial space.
Employees at the foreign investment-developed factories expressed satisfaction with their workplace to both local and foreign investors. Upon arrival at KEPZ, investors were received by Kihak Sung, Chairman of Youngone Corporation, who accompanied them during the inspection.
Kihak Sung praised the current interim government's efforts and urged foreign investors to consider Bangladesh as a future investment destination, citing the administration's commitment to providing facilities for investors. He acknowledged past challenges in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) but highlighted the current administration's effective actions.
Sung also addressed inquiries from a Chinese investor, acknowledging administrative complexities but emphasizing Bangladesh's standing as a profitable investment destination. He noted Youngone's continuous expansion in Bangladesh.
During the visit, BIDA experts presented KEPZ's existing investment facilities to potential entrepreneurs. The Summit aims to highlight Bangladesh's evolving investment landscape and its potential for transformative opportunities and growth. Global investment leaders and industry pioneers will engage in discussions as the country redefines its investment future in Dhaka until April 10.
