Five Pirates Apprehended with Weapons and Drugs in Bhola

Bhola: Members of the Coast Guard arrested five pirates with local weapons and drugs from the Tetulia River at Veduria union in Sadar upazila early this morning. The arrested individuals were identified as Md Anwar Howlader, 42, Mamun Mollah, 41, Md Jewel Sheikh, 26, Pannu Mollah, 32, and Md Nazmul Howlader, 38, all residents of Sreepur union under Mehendiganj upazila in Barishal district.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a Coast Guard team conducted a drive in the river around 1 am following a tip-off and apprehended the five pirates while they were committing robbery on fishing boats. Media officer Lt. Commander Siam ul Haque shared this information at a press conference this morning.



During the operation, the team seized four country-made weapons, ganja, and three boats. The arrested individuals are said to be active members of the notorious Meghna pirate group, Shaheen Bahini, as confirmed by the media officer.



The apprehended pirates were subsequently handed over to Bhola Sadar Model Police Station at 12 noon today.
