Sherpur: At least five business establishments were gutted in a fire that broke out at Jhagrachar Bazar in Sribardi upazila of the district early this morning. The fire originated from an electric short circuit of a shop around 5 am in the bazar and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, three units of Fire Service from Sribardi and Bakshiganj rushed to the spot upon being informed and managed to bring the fire under control. The Station Officer-in-Charge of Sribardi Fire Service Office, Md. Ashraf Hossain, confirmed the swift response of the fire units.
Various goods, including rice, pulses, husks, food products, cosmetics, and oil stored in shops and godowns, were burnt in the blaze. While the exact extent of the damage is yet to be determined through investigation, affected shop owners have estimated losses amounting to approximately Taka three crore.
