Jamalpur: The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested five individuals and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments in connection with a theft at the rented residence of a judge couple in Jamalpur. The incident occurred on June 30 at Amlapara under the jurisdiction of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, where burglars reportedly cut through a window grille to access the couple's third-floor apartment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the burglars managed to steal Tk 1 lakh in cash and gold ornaments valued at approximately Tk 19.18 lakh. The arrested individuals include Rahul, 24, Bishal, 21, and Dukhu Mia, 24, who are suspected to be directly involved in the theft. Additionally, Masud Rana, 42, and Mosharraf Hossain, 38, were apprehended for allegedly purchasing the stolen gold.
The PBI was able to recover a 23.19-gram gold item worth around Tk 4.5 lakh from Masud. From Mosharraf, investigators retrieved 8 ana 5 rati of gold ornaments valued at approximately Tk 1.2 lakh, in addition to 26 bhori of silver ornaments worth about Tk 1.04 lakh. Rahul and Bishal were taken into custody on August 25, followed by Dukhu on September 2. Masud and Mosharraf were apprehended on September 3.
Rahul, Bishal, and Dukhu reportedly provided confessional statements before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The court has delegated the investigation to PBI, with Inspector Rupon Kumar Sarker leading the probe under the supervision of PBI Jamalpur Unit chief Superintendent of Police Pankaj Dutta. Efforts continue to apprehend additional suspects and recover the remaining stolen ornaments.
