Dhaka: Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of scrap vendor Sohag in the Mitford area of the city. The arrests were confirmed by police sources today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, authorities have placed one of the arrested individuals, Titon Gazi, under a five-day remand for questioning, following a decision by a metropolitan magistrate court. The other suspects arrested in the case include Mahmudul Hassan Mohin, 41; Alamgir, 28; Monir alias Chhoto Monir, 25; and Tarek Rahman alias Robin, 22.
Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin of the Lalbagh division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police stated that the murder was a result of a business rivalry rather than extortion. The police are actively pursuing additional suspects by analyzing video footage, mobile recordings, and eyewitness accounts.
Inspector Nasir Uddin of Kotwali Thana, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case, presented Titon Gazi, 33, in front of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court, requesting a seven-day remand. However, Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias granted a five-day remand instead. Titon was apprehended by Kotwali Police from Zinda Bahar area last Friday.
The victim, Sohag, was brutally attacked with stones and sharp objects on July 9, near Mitford Hospital, during a business dispute. Sohag, 39, was the son of Yusuf Ali Hawlader from Purbo Mamabari village under Keraniganj Model Thana. His sister, Manjuara Begum, filed a case on July 10, accusing 19 individuals of involvement in the murder.
