First day of voting in SCBA polls ends

DHAKA, March 15, 2023 (BSS) - First day of two-day voting of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) polls of 2023-2024 tenure ended at 5pm today.

The voting started at around 12 noon and went on uninterrupted till 5pm.

"Tomorrow the voting will start at 10am and will continue till 5pm, with one-hour recess in the middle," convener of SCBA election sub-committee Md Moniruzzaman told BSS.

The first day of voting witnessed chaotic situations, including clashes between the supporters of two panels and vandalising of polling booths by the pro-BNP lawyers.

At one stage, police entered the Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium to move out the protesting lawyers of pro-BNP panel that led to a clash leave some journalists injured.

Pro-liberation White Panel is contesting with incumbent president and secretary Md Momtazuddin Fakir and Md Abdun Nur Dulal respectively as its candidates for the same posts.

On the other hand, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal are vying for the posts of president and secretary from pro-BNP Blue Panel.
