Washington dc: The first day of the third round of tariff talks between Bangladesh and the United States concluded in Washington DC today. The discussions, which are part of ongoing negotiations over proposed tariffs, began at 12:30 pm Washington time and wrapped up at 5:30 pm, according to sources from the commerce ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the second day of the talks is scheduled to commence at 9:00 am Washington time. This update was shared through a social media post by Golam Mortoza, the press minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington. The talks are a critical component of the negotiations over the proposed 35 percent reciprocal tariffs suggested by the Trump administration.
The Bangladeshi delegation, led by commerce adviser SK Bashir Uddin, also included national security adviser Khalilur Rahman, commerce secretary Mahbubur Rahman, and additional secretary Nazneen Kawshar Chowdhury. Some officials participated virtually to ensure comprehensive involvement. On the US side, the discussions were led by assistant trade representative Brendan Lynch, alongside other officials focusing on trade and tariffs.
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC played a pivotal role in coordinating the negotiation process. The Bangladeshi delegation departed from Dhaka on Monday evening, marking the commencement of the third and final round of tariff negotiations.
