A fire that broke out at the "Barishal Plaza
Shopping Mall" in Bangabazar area under Gulistan of the capital this morning
has been brought under control.
"The fire originated on the third floor of the shopping complex around 8am
this morning. Fourteen firefighting units from the headquarters, Sadarghat,
Palashi and Lalbagh rushed to the spot and able to completely douse the blaze
around 9:50 am," Mohammad Sahjahan, officer-in-charge (Media) of Fire Service
and Civil Defence Department told BSS.
However, no casualties were reported during the incident, he added.
"The fire might have originated from an electric short-circuit," Duty Officer
of Fire Service and Civil Defence Department Rozina Akhter said, adding that
the accurate reason behind the accident and the actual amount of the damages
could be known after an investigation.
